New Horizons is a progressive not-for-profit community based organisation that has been operating since 1981.
The organisation provides services in supported accommodation, supported employment and aged care for over 2,200 people. New Horizon's non-profit commercial packaging service specialises in providing solutions for commercial clients while providing employment for people with a disability.
The organisation's head office is in North Ryde, however services are provided in the Sydney, Central Coast, Hunter, Mid North Coast, Blue Mountains and Northern Rivers regions. New Horizons is growing rapidly, with approximately 500 employees in NSW.
About the Opportunity
If you are a self-motivated 'go getter', committed to enhancing the lives of those living with disabilities, then New Horizons wants you to join their North Ryde team as a Case Worker working with the Younger People Living in Residential Care program.
The aim of the role is to integrate people into the community and to achieve social access. The program caters for an age group of 18 - 50 years old.
Reporting to the Program Manager, some of your day to day duties will include (but will not be limited to):
- Assisting people to establish linkages in their community;
- Assessing, counselling and supporting participants to build up their self esteem and confidence;
- Assisting and supporting participants to work toward independence and to achieve social access;
- Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with colleagues and others; and
- Working within the stated mission statement, philosophy and objectives of New Horizons.
To be successful in this role, you will have relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field. It is essential that you have experience in working with people with disabilities, while experience in aged care will be highly regarded. You will also need experience in case management and service coordination in the Disability/Aged Care sector, and demonstrated experience in providing flexible programs to meet individual needs.
It is important that you possess an ability to develop community based activities in collaboration with a range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be experienced in coordinating agency and staff rosters coupled with an ability to represent New Horizons to Government and other organisations.
New Horizons is seeking an empathetic individual, with strong communication skills and a genuine desire to help others and improve the community. Furthermore, a current NSW Drivers Licence and ownership of/access to a car are key requirements for this role.
