About the Opportunity

UMW Niugini Limited has an exciting opportunity for a full time Technical Advisor - Drills to join its team working in Hidden Valley, PNG. This is a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) role, involving 16 days on site and 12 days off site, with some shift work.

Reporting directly to the Equipment Maintenance Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing a crew in making safe, economic and efficient service repairs and rebuilds to the fleet of drilling rigs on site.

You will play a vital role in the maintenance of drills on site, as you direct the necessary resources to carry out the servicing, repairs, overhaul and breakdown works to the Drill Fleet.

Some of your specific responsibilities will be to:

  • Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with lockout/tag out procedures, Take 5, Hazard ID, PPE for yourself and others and participating in safety meetings/programs and adhering to environmental policies, procedures/best practice;
  • Carry out Workshop/Workplace inspections to ensure a high standard of housekeeping and safety;
  • Ensure all OEM recommendations are being adhered to with regard to the operation and maintenance of the equipment to achieve acceptable levels of equipment availability;
  • Maintain an accurate history of works carried out to each machine under the maintenance contracts;
  • Participate with continuous improvement programs including modifications to Preventative Maintenance Sheets and assembling of Job Safety Analysis;
  • Ensure all accident damage /operator abuse is correctly recorded and reported as set out in the accident damage procedure;
  • Maintain a focus on costs with the view of reducing waste of parts/materials; and
  • Review the monthly key performance indicators including costs, equipment availability and maintenance statistics and make recommendations for improvements where required.

The successful applicant will be a trade qualified Mechanical Fitter or Plant Mechanic, with at least 5 years background in maintaining surface blast hole drills. Your experience in the industry will include at least 3 years supervisory experience in the heavy earthmoving/mining industry, as well as exposure to top hammer drills and the Atlas Copco brand of drilling rigs.

This is a hands-on advisor role, suited to someone with excellent organisational, time management and planning skills, who can trouble shoot and problem solve on site. You will be an outstanding team player with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, contractors and clients.

Applicants must hold a PNG Class 3 driver's licence (Class 7 preferred) or an Australian equivalent. Candidates must also speak and write fluent English, and have strong abilities with Microsoft Word and Excel.
