The organisation provides services in supported accommodation, supported employment and aged care for over 1200 people. New Horizons' non-profit commercial packaging service specialises in providing solutions for commercial clients while providing employment for people with a disability.
The organisation's head office is in North Ryde, however services are provided in the Sydney, Central Coast, Hunter, Mid North Coast, Blue Mountains and Northern Rivers regions. New Horizons is growing rapidly, with approximately 520 employees in NSW.
About the Opportunity
New Horizons has exciting opportunities for several Residential Support Workers to join its Newcastle and Central Coast team's working in a Casual capacity. The Newcastle office is located at Lambton and the Central Coast office is located at Gosford and support is provided in residential settings integrated throughout the community from individual to group environments.
The primary purpose of these roles is to provide residential care and assistance to adults living with an intellectual, psychiatric, cognitive impairment and physical disability. The services have a strong client focus with staff working in partnership to maximise individual outcomes. Clients are supported to access a range of community based services that promote integration and participation in community life.
These roles will compliment coverage of a service delivered 365 days per year, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Shifts vary in duration from 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 hours to provide effective and adequate support. Shifts are available on a rotating basis for day, afternoon, night and weekend work, however it is anticipated suitable applicant’s will be flexible in their availability to work across a variety of shifts.
About You
To be successful in the Residential Support Worker roles, you will have sound knowledge and experience supporting people in a residential environment in a variety of settings. You will be able to provide support in addressing individual needs such as personal care, daily living, recreation and leisure, community access, education and employment as well as promote access to mainstream community based services that will meet the goals of the person being supported.
New Horizons is seeking empathetic individuals, with experience in the disabilities and/or mental health sector and complimentary skills in personal support, social and community welfare or similar. These are pivotal 'hands on' roles and accordingly your ability to communicate effectively with vulnerable people, to solve problems, to manage and organise your time efficiently and to build and maintain collaborative relationships. You will need both the ability to work effectively in a small team, and the ability to work unsupervised.
To succeed you will have completed qualifications in either Disability, Mental Health, Social Work or Community Services and hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate. You will need general administration abilities and able to demonstrate a basic level of computer literacy, complimented by an understanding of the Disability Service Standards and/or Mental Health Standards will be vital. An enthusiasm for working with people with disability and a genuine desire to help others and improve the quality of life is essential!
